The Golden Pine Cone
Published in Paperback by Harbour Pub Co (June, 1997)
Authors: Greta Guzek and Catherine Anthony Clark
Average review score:

read this book 7 times in elementary school!
Open your imagination and get swept into the adventure. A brother and sister find a golden pinecone in the woods which enables them to communicate with animals and fairies. Their dog Ooshka becomes their guide as they must return the magical pinecone to the valley of Tekontha. Many adventures come their way. Flavoured with native indian folklore. The author lived in British Columbia and the setting is 1950's west coast Canada. More appropriate for children grade 3+ as some of their adventures may be scary for younger children (i.e. the "Lake Snake Swamp"). Paperback has beautiful new illustrations. Has a "Harry Potter" feel to it. Loved it so much I named my web site after it!

A Golden State: Mining and Economic Development in Gold Rush California (California History Sesquicentennial Series, 2)
Published in Hardcover by University of California Press (June, 1999)
Authors: James J. Rawls, Richard J. Orsi, Marlene Smith-Baranzini, and Anthony Kirk
Average review score:

The best short essay work I have seen on this subject
In line with much of the new non-fiction surveys and studies, the book, in short essays gives the picture on much information that I have not seen before on the Gold Rush and the aftermath. In particular it gives a reader a chance to compare the Internet investment frenzy with the Gold Mine stocks frenzy in the 1860s & 70s.

The information is concise and beautifully and fascinatingly written.

Author: Anthony Landale
Average review score:

Invaluable aid for today¿s training professionals
It is now crystal clear that, in today's ever-changing world, an organization's very survival depends upon how it supports its people to learn and keep on learning. Of course this new imperative has considerable implications for trainers who are now playing an increasingly critical role in supporting individuals, teams and business management. In this respect today's trainers may need to be more than excellent presenters; they are also likely to require a range of consultancy and coaching skills, to understand the place of technology in supporting learning and be able to align personal development values with business objectives.

This brand new edition of the Gower Handbook of Training and Development will be an invaluable aid for today's training professionals as they face up to the organizational challenges presented to them. All 38 chapters in this edition are new and many of the contributors, whilst being best selling authors or established industry figures, are appearing for the first time in this form. Edited by Anthony Landale, this Handbook builds on the foundations that previous editions have laid down whilst, at the same time, highlighting many of the very latest advances in the industry.

The Handbook is divided into five sections-learning organizations, best practice, advanced techniques in training and development, the use of IT in learning, and evaluation issues.

Anthony Landale is currently Editor-in-Chief of Management Skills & Development magazine, having been the editor from 1992-1998. He is a regular contributor to The Guardian's management page, and is a freelance trainer specializing in areas including facilitation, coaching and personal development. Additionally, he is a qualified counsellor with his own private practice.

A Grammar of Fear and Evil: A Husserlian-Wittgensteinian Hermeneutic (Studies in European Thought, Vol 9)
Published in Paperback by Peter Lang Publishing (February, 1997)
Author: Adrian Anthony McFarlane
Average review score:

Fear Understood, Evil Contained
This text takes on a difficult but familiar problem--Fear and Evil--and makes the literature accessible and, thereby, demystifies the problems associated with fear and evil.
Where one expected esoteric expressions, one got instead some
very logical analyses which guide the reader through the fog
of philosophical discourse, religious speculation, and psychological angst. In short, the text is rich in content,
very insightful in method, and refreshingly clear in arguments.

"My Money?"
Part of one of the all time great lines in radio programing. OK, it is from a Jack Benny show. Fortunately there are many of the radio shows from the 30's, 40's and 50's still available. This is a book that will show the folks in the show and make the shows that much more enjoyable. Fun fun fun...

The Guards
Published in Hardcover by Crown Pub (October, 1983)
Authors: Anthony Edgeworth and John De St Jorre
Average review score:

The best book on the Hosehold Division in the late 1970's
The Guards This books has some the best photography of the Guards both Calvary and Foot. Some great anecdotes on life as a member of the finest fighting force and traditions of the British Army. Also humor and the antics Guardsman have got up to during Ceremonial Duties. Such as the Guardsman who put an alarm clock in his bearskin, set to go off at the exact time Her Majesty was to ride by during the inspection part Birthday Parade or Tropping the Colour. There are stories and pictures of the Guards on duty in Northern Ireland, Belize and West Germany. This dispells the story that the Guards are just Toy Soldiers. A great book and truely beautifully photographed.

Loved this book. The layouts of the poison plants are easy to understand. Gives you a clear color picture closeup and distance shots of the plants. A a US map for the habitat -- great description of its actual locations i.e. "moist conditions preferring the edges of receding reservoirs and ponds." Describes the toxins involved then gives you clinical signs diagnosis and treatment for the animal. You need this book in your barn!
